the premier private country club in the North Central PA
The Williamsport Country Club is the premier private country club in the North Central / Lycoming County region. Established in 1909, The Williamsport Country club has a rich heritage of golfing history that is solidly anchored by the A.W. Tillinghast course design. The legendary architect of many iconic and classic courses indelibly left his mark in Williamsport when he designed the first nine holes in 1909. Tilinghast returned in 1923 to complete this 18 hole classic that features rolling fairways, false front greens and deep, high walled bunkers, all Tillinghast trademarks. The greens are deceptive and tricky with hole changing pin placements that can put a premium on shotmaking and ball placement. (On some holes you just don’t want to be above the pin).
A full fleet of golf carts, up to date storage and maintenance barns, the latest in course manicuring equipment, a healthy irrigation system and a golf staff and crew with a focus on attention to detail, all together make this classic course worth playing over and over again.
The Williamsport Country Club pro shop is second to none in the region. Head PGA gold professional Chris Macdonald has the latest and greatest in golf equipment, apparel and accessories. While part of the private facilities, the pro shop is open to the public as well. The pro shop is also where one can sign up for lessons, members can sign in guests or sign up for member golf tournaments.
The par 71 layout offers a challenging front nine with plenty of elevation changes and scenic views of the surrounding areas. After nine holes, one can take a brief break at the halfway shack, with is staffed and stocked with a variety of beverages and foods. The second nine continues with challenging hole layouts, holes framed by many towering and mature trees and finishes on a par 5 18th hole with a spectacular view of the city of Williamsport.
Right in the middle of your trip around the course we offer the shack for refreshing drinks, grilled food, sandwiches and snacks. The Shack at the turn between number nine and ten may seem like just a small building located between holes, but this little structure is often a strategic stop for a refreshing drink!
